Low cost, high impact innovation and creativity combined in one package is Mr. Arvind Gupta.
It is again one of the must see video….. It is subtle but then it grows on you once you start thinking.
In this short video Mr. Arvind Gupta shows us the way science can be understood and learned. It need not be taught, it can be learned by playing with toys and having fun making it at the lowest possible cost.
My notes and learning from it are:
He really understood what kids like and how kids learn.
“Children want to make things, children want to do things and the best thing you can do with a toy is break it.”
"Go to the people. Live with them, love them. Start from what they know. Build on what they have."
It is really applicable for every person involved in kid’s development to understand it deeply. Many times we act at our own levels and not theirs or on the fancy ideas inserted in our heads by media or someone. What is cool, smart or an intellectual thing for us is at times boring for them. We have to - Go to the kids. Live with them, love them. Start from what they know. Build on what they have.
Lots of examples of more such experiments can be found out from his PDF documents at http://unesdoc.unesco.org/images/0010/001023/102321eb.pdf
And his YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/arvindguptatoys contains thousands of videos.
He also has a site: http://www.arvindguptatoys.com/
His simplicity is appealing and it touches somewhere deep inside....may be with the kid inside us. Wish we can continue with his simplicity, passion in our journey here.
