The Education Desk
It is not just a desk to sit back; watch and listen. It is the Desk to initiate a change, a positive change in studies, creativity and overall development of kids.
Our focus at Education Desk is not only academic progress but an overall development.
We have sections like Activities where the aim is to encourage curiosity, passion and creativity in Kids. Or a section like talents whose focus is to discuss about various talents in kids like dance, music, various sports, photography, drama and ways to nurture it. The goal of section the Matrix is to discuss about current conditions, problems and success stories related to current educational systems local and worldwide.
In all, through this forum we aim to raise the level of dialogue between parents, teachers, students and all those people who related with kid’s development.
The main benefit it provides is a shift from passive to active learning mode. It enables the transformation in students from just listening to lectures to focuses on developing higher order thinking skills such as analysis, synthesis and evaluation through group activities and discussions.
It is not even four months old (the site) and it need lot more love and efforts to develop it into right shape and size. Also the content is updated up to 2nd and grade only and will need help of community for developing and updating the material for higher grades.
Suguta Mitra …. Letting learning happen: Sugata Mitra @ TED
“Letting learning happen: Sugata Mitra @ TED” kids can learn by themselves and much beyond their age and our expectations. Kids learn through interactions, interaction with systems and with each other. They learn through their own mistakes and of others. One needs to be patient with kids and should play a role of guide or a mentor.
Mr. Arvind Gupta….High impact innovation and creativity
“It is really applicable for every person involved in kid’s development to understand it deeply. Many times we act at our own levels and not theirs or on the fancy ideas inserted in our heads by media or someone. What is cool, smart or an intellectual thing for us is at times boring for them. We have to - Go to the kids. Live with them, love them. Start from what they know. Build on what they have.”

There are many ways the forum can be used and applied to today’s needs of students and teachers. Some of them are
To enhance in-class learning:
- Teachers create the topics for and share the links & documents with the students on forum for a lecture.
- Students go through the documents before coming to a lecture.
- Teachers and students both discuss in class and also through the forum on the complex concepts.
- Students and teachers share the advance topics and share the related material.
Healthy discussion helps in understanding the complex concept through multiple videos / documents / web sites.
It helps students to reiterate through the material multiple times if required at their speed.
It helps to revise the concepts and build on the foundation for more advanced topics in the future.
Advance Use: Flip Class Rooms
- Students watch lectures read through study material at home at their own pace.
- Teachers clarify the doubts and guide students to apply that knowledge during classes through activities and homework / assignments in school.
- Along with face to face communication in classes, students and teachers communicate with each other and their pears via online discussion.
So traditional model of home-work (assigned work) at home and lectures at school gets flipped to students learning new content online by watching video lectures, course material, presentations usually at home and what used to be homework (assigned problems) is now done in class with teacher offering more personalized guidance and interaction with students, instead of lecturing.
Knowledge share and Knowledge management: There are many more scenarios in which it can be used effectively.
If you are a teacher, principal or educationalist ; a parent or a student; wants to use it for school/ class or among group of friends feel free to experiment. Let us know your feedback and areas of improvements here.
Hope you are as motivated as us and will join us to contribute towards development of students of all age.
